Terri Lanham has been a nurse at Kendal at Oberlin for almost 20 years, working in the Health and Wellness Clinic. Terri lived in Virginia while her husband was in the military and where she attended school. When she moved back to Ohio, she worked for Fairview Hospital and, later, in a private medical practice. We are very happy to welcome Terri to Kendal at Home.
Why did you want to become a nurse?
Terri Lanham: I have always wanted to be a nurse. I like to nurture and care for people.
What is your favorite part of being a care coordinator?
TL: I like the Kendal philosophy and I admire the Quaker values. I enjoy learning about a new member's lifestyle and health goals and then being able to provide them with the individualized, personalized care for which Kendal is known.
What is the biggest challenge of being a care coordinator?
TL: Time. I think for me time is the biggest challenge. I also find it challenging leaving the nursing role and thinking more in the care coordination role. But I enjoy the challenge.
What are you most proud of?
TL: I am proud of where I am and where I have been. I am glad I became a nurse--I have learned so much. Personally I am very proud of my children. I have two daughters who are wonderful, caring, thoughtful young ladies. They are very career and goal-oriented. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 30 years and we have a two and a half-year old grandson who has added so much joy to our lives.
What are you looking forward to?
TL: At Kendal at Home, I look forward to getting to know the members. Kendal at Home members are very interesting and unique. I have already learned so much from them. Most of all, I look forward to alleviating some of their fear of the unknown as they age in their homes.
What do you do with your time off?
TL: We all enjoy exercise. I ran my first 5k run this year and I am preparing to run another very soon. We also spend a lot of time with family and friends on vacations and boating excursions. Currently, we are helping our youngest daughter and her new husband with renovations on their first home.
What is a fun fact about you?
TL: I owned a Jazzercise franchise and taught a class for 15 years.
What should people know about Kendal at Home?
TL: The personalized care people get from their care coordinator is the overall aspect that impresses me. The care coordinators know the members so well, sometimes even more than their family members know them. Kendal at Home members are provided with 24-hour support. Even if members are out of town they can call and receive needed services anywhere in the continental US.
