Fresh Summer Vegetables Pack a Nutritious Punch for Older Adults

Want to do your body good? Make sure you eat plenty of fresh summer veggies. Farmers’ markets and local grocery stores offer delicious selections of fresh-picked, locally-grown produce. Packed with vitamins, minerals, essential nutrients, disease-fighting antioxidants, and fiber, fresh vegetables are a key ingredient in a healthy diet.

The Many Benefits

A growing body of research indicates that the benefits of eating fresh vegetables may extend well beyond weight control and general good health into numerous aspects of our mental and physical well being. Studies have linked diets rich in fruits and vegetables to the prevention of certain cancers, improved brain health, better memory retention, lower blood pressure, reduction of stroke risk, decreased risk of cardiovascular disease, protection against infection, and healthy teeth and gums.
