Becoming a member of Kendal at Home is a big step in planning for your future. If you think it might be right for you but need to know more, here are the most common questions people ask.
Kendal at Home is a nonprofit continuing care at home program that has been helping older adults live well on their own terms since 2004. We give you the plan, the support and the care coverage to stay in the home you love and live the way you want.
Yes. Kendal at Home is part of the Kendal Corporation, a nationally recognized nonprofit network with a 50-year history of reimagining what aging well looks like. The Kendal network includes continuing care retirement communities and at-home programs across multiple states, all united by a shared set of values: respect, dignity, creativity and integrity.
It means you get the kind of personalized, lifelong support that was once only available if you moved into a senior living community, but in the comfort of your own home. Continuing care at home combines proactive wellness, dedicated care coordination and financial coverage for future care needs. It's planning ahead, with people you trust, so you can keep living how you want to live.
Care coordinators get to know you before you ever need care so they understand your health history, your routines, family, goals and what matters to you. That relationship is the foundation for everything that comes next.
In practice, your care coordinator might conduct an annual wellness assessment to spot a concern before it becomes a crisis, accompany you to a medical appointment to make sure nothing gets missed, help arrange for a caregiver when you're recovering from surgery, or be the person you call when you’re facing a difficult situation. They speak the language of healthcare and know how to navigate a system that can be overwhelming on your own.
Your coordinator knows what's normal for you. And because they're part of a larger team with backgrounds in many different specialties, they can draw on deep
No. Home care agencies send care providers to your home and manage the scheduling and staffing of those services. We work as a care coordinator, arranging many different types of services through our network of trusted providers. That may include bringing in a home care agency, helping you set up your home to be more accessible after a hospital discharge or setting up meal delivery services when needed. We do this through a personalized care coordinator who gets to know you, your lifestyle, and your healthcare needs so we can provide the right support at the right time.
We've been helping older adults stay independent since 2004. In fact, 98% of our members successfully stay in their homes as they age. We're part of the Kendal Corporation, a respected nonprofit network of senior living and at-home communities with a legacy going back more than 50 years.
We currently serve more than 450 members across Ohio, Kentucky and Massachusetts, and we're growing every year. Our members are supported by a team of care coordinators with backgrounds in nursing, gerontology, physical therapy, nutrition, exercise physiology and psychology. We keep our administrative team lean so the majority of your membership investment goes directly to care.
We are proud members of LeadingAge, a community of nonprofit aging services providers, and the Friends Services Alliance (FSA), a national professional association of organizations that serve seniors and are modeled after Quaker values. We are also accredited by the Better Business Bureau and credentialed through SageCare, the largest LGBTQ+ aging care provider in the United States. These affiliations reflect our commitment to transparency, ethical practice and high standards of care.
Kendal at Home is designed for adults who are healthy and independent today and want to plan intentionally for tomorrow.
Most members join when they're still in good health and have planned for retirement but want to have a similar plan in place for staying independent. The earlier you join, the more options you have, and the lower your monthly fees will be.

Membership gives you access to a personalized framework built on three pillars:
You also get 24/7 access to your care team and connection to a community of people who also want to stay independent and active.
Our fee structure is designed to support both the services you receive today and the care you may need in the future, providing peace of mind through a thoughtful, shared approach. In 2025, Kendal at Home paid more than $3 million in care benefits to members who needed support.
The cost of Kendal at Home membership is significantly less than the costs of not having a plan in place for care. For instance, the average cost of a private room in a nursing home was about $127,750 per year in 2025, while the cost of a home health aide is about $77,792 per year, according to GenWorth and CareScout’s long-term care costs calculator.
Our membership fees are based on your age at the time you join and the level of coverage you choose. We offer a Foundation Plan that provides access to our wellness and care advocacy benefits, as well as plans that add financial coverage for care services at different benefit levels. Fees are discounted for two people in the same household. Because costs vary by individual, we share detailed pricing in our virtual seminars and personal consultations so you get accurate information tailored to you.

Yes, your initial fee and monthly fees may be tax-deductible as a medical expense under IRS guidelines. Current guidelines allow you to deduct medical expenses that are more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income as itemized deductions in the year you paid them. It’s a conversation worth having with a financial advisor, attorney or accountant.
Yes. Because Kendal at Home provides financial coverage for future care, we do require members to meet certain health criteria at the time they join. This is one of the most important reasons to consider joining sooner rather than later. The earlier you become a member, the more likely you are to qualify for the full range of benefits and the lower your monthly fees will be. Waiting until you need care means you may not be eligible for coverage when it matters most.
The easiest first step is to join one of our free virtual or in-person seminars, where we’ll share more about the benefits of joining Kendal at Home, membership costs, and how to know if it’s right for you.
You can also schedule a personal consultation with a member of our team.
First, we’ll talk about the realities of finding and paying for care and why it’s so important to have a plan. Next, we’ll talk more about what that looks like with Kendal at Home. You’ll have an opportunity to talk with our member advisors and care coordinators to learn more about how we build a relationship with you and how we support you when you need it. We’ll talk more about the costs and benefits of Kendal at Home compared to other long-term care options, such as nursing home care or independent living. You’ll also meet some of our members.
If you can’t make one of our upcoming seminars, you can meet with a Kendal at Home member advisor at your convenience. They’ll talk through your situation, your goals and your questions, explain membership options and costs, and help you figure out whether Kendal at Home is the right fit.
